Today is day two of our trip to the southern plains. We spent last evening in a hotel on the West Virginia / Ohio border. We will be driving 7 or 8 hours today and will spend the night in Missouri before continuing on to Texas tomorrow. There is a chance of weak thunderstorms this evening in Missouri so we may be treated to some thunder and lightning around the area of our hotel.
Possible thunderstorms in Missouri this evening.
Friday is going to be our first chase day. Forecast models are in agreement that it will be a very active day. Tornadoes, hail, damaging wind and flooding rains are all possible Friday (and the following couple of days). The jet-stream pattern will be shifting this week, bringing a lot of energy into the central and southern plains. When this happens warm, humid air streams into the Plains from the Gulf of Mexico. It's too soon to determine exact details such as the magnitude and location of the tornado threat each day so stay tuned for future updates.
